Not you! The store makes most of it. But even that's not much. 1.5% profit margin at a competitive grocery store. Who knows what % at the place with no competition! You need to go organic and sell for 5 or more times per unit compared to regular junk.
You know those irritating stickers on all the fruit? Some guy in SF came up with those to mark his blemished 'organic' fruit for the cashiers! His junk looking stuff was 4 times the price of the flawless fruit, but the cashiers couldn't tell what to charge without the sticker.
My local discount grocer gets $6 for a 2 pound roasted chicken. Costco and Sams get $5 for a 3 pounder. Yet when I buy a whole chicken to cook, all of them are at least 5 pounds and most 6+. It's only me, so I cut them in half and freeze it.
