I just bought a Craigs list tractor. Arranged to meet the seller, stopped by the bank on the way, moved some money to my checking account, took the records with me, showed the seller the paperwork, he took my personal check, checked today and check cleared the bank and that was that.
I have used direct, electronic transfer before and other than the 20 bucks to do it, a walk in the park and as safe as you can get.
On scammers, I noticed some offerings on the list that very well could have been, or just a lazy seller. My luck was I didn't have to worry about a tractor half way across the country and all associated with that. The beauty I found was within 50 miles and fit on my trailer that accompanied me when I went to see it.
