I held this one back, folks.
In my opinion, there is no greater tear jerker song than Lili Marlene. Bear with me. I will post explanation.
This song, originally written in prose in by a German Soldier on the Western Front in WWI, was set to music in the 1930s. The 1939 German version recorded by Lale Andersen was subsequently broadcast from Vienna (Prague?) to German soldiers in Northern Africa. The transmissions were received by both German as well as other soldiers and the song became a favorite of all soldiers on all fronts (absent the Japanese) in WWII.
Lili Marlene is a tragic love song about a German soldier who would meet his girl friend beneath the gas light at the barracks gate each evening. Knowing that he would soon be sent to fight somewhere, he feared that he would loose both his girl and his life. Of course, he lost both.
Lili Marlene was recorded in about 20 languages in WWII, and, to this day, is known as the soldiers song.
The link below is a German version probably by Lale Andersen.
I will post both a Wikipedia link and a popular English language link subsequently.

I really hate to see a good tractor being treated that way, but not being able to start it without a 30 minute point filing ritual every time contributed to its demise. If it would just start when I turn the key, then I would use it more often. In addition to a bad case of old age, most of the tractor's original electrical system was simply too unreliable to keep. The main focus of this page is to show how I upgr
