That is quite a bit, in comparison to have run the same year in a 4000 for many years. Even my 850 ford, LP powered, would cut the 7 acre field on one 30Lb propane tank, taking 4 hours, with just a little fuel to spare. My much newer ford/nh 4630 does a lot better, won't burn 5 gallons in the same field under the same conditions.
Keep the mower adjust correctly on the tractor, blades sharp or replaced, and try to get the mowing done when the plants are still young, soft to cut, makes a huge difference in how efficient they shred through the rotary cutter. That and keeping the tractor in good tune like was mentioned.
Cutting early also avoids running in dry chaff which is miserable if I wait too long to cut around here. I like to only cut the place once per year, but have already finished all the fields and small patches and paths already to avoid ever running in those conditions again. Chaff and fuzz clogging up the radiator screen. Chaff/dust in your eyes, won't ever wait that long again, or will skip it LOL !
