I have done a hood bit of work at the Erie PA train plant and Grove City engine plant. They build GE branded motors for alot of things. The most popular are for locomotives and marine use. At one piont about 10 years ago they were looking into the generator market for islands in the south Pacific powered by palm oil. We did about a year's worth 5 or 6 men, of work in the engine lab test cells for Palm oil testing. THE TEST LASTED 4 HOURS AND WAS SCRAPPED.
It was announced recently that the locomotive division was sold or partially sold to an outfit called Wabco. Over the last few years the workforce in the Erie plant has shrank by a bout half down to 1500 os so. It was 13000 in the early 80s. Alot of folks think they have been closing the Erie plant for years.
