WOW now that brings back a few memories. My grandfather was a Springfield dealer and had a fairly sized power equipment dealership in the 60's 70' and into the 80's. Springfield was the early Toro. Not sure exactly when they got bought out but you'll notice that the early Toro's didn't change much from Springfield origins. 1967 give or take.
4 grandsons all within 4 years of each other used to race to the dealership every day to get the chance to drive them out to the lot and front porch. Unfortunately have no information left as it went out of business 35 years ago. They were the first thing any of us drove that had wheels and a motor, so that was something that we all remember very well. My granddad would just smile as we all moved the fleet. It's a miracle that none of us drove one off the porch. I remember that they were built very well and held up to excessive young boy testing.
My dad got rid of a bunch of scrap several years back when prices were up and got rid the one we had when I was growing up. It actually still would run and mow had 32" deck very rugged and mowed great. I didn't kill it, that in itself was a miracle.

From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
