I have replaced a couple on my 2510 and 2520's. Like Tim S said the new discs are thicker. After the replacements the chatter was gone in my cases.
Next is a 4020, then another 2520.
Assuming the brakes have never been changed in your 4020 it sounds like an update is in order. But, if you want to go at it more methodically, pull the pre-screen and see how much debris is in the bottom of the case.
I helped a friend change the brakes in a 2520. The bottom of the case was full, and I mean full of metal chips and scrolls of steel like you get off a drill press. The brake components were pretty much gone. Anyway we cleaned and cleaned and flushed with diesel fuel. The tractor was OK after that.
There are several approaches to changing the brakes. You can remove the entire tire, rim, wheel, axle, axle housing all in one assembly. Manipulating that much weight makes me nervous so I prefer to break it down somewhat. Tire, rim, and wheel as one assembly. Axle and axle housing as another. And, my lifting tools can handle that much better.

On our first cosmetic restoration, not having a manual, we carefully marked the wires, taped the magneto in the position it came off, and were careful not to turn the engine over while we had these components off. We thought we could get by with this since the engine ran perfectly and would not need any internal work. After the cleanup and painting was done, we began reassembly and finally came to t
