Not necessarily about an obnoxious salesman, but when my brother and I grew up, we farmed with Oliver, which eventually became Agco. About 10 years ago, my brother was combining and two local BTO brothers, who farm with John Deere, stopped into my brother's field to shoot the bull and compare yields. My brother was harvesting with a New Holland, sold by the local Agco dealer. The local Agco salesman happened to see the three of them in the field (well, obviously the two BTO brothers) and pulled his pickup in. My brother has known this salesman for decades. The salesmen gave some sodas to the BTOs and threw in a candy bar. He shot the breeze with them for a good 15 minutes, commented on yields, yukked it up with them with the latest joke and then went on his way. My brother was excluded from the conversation, was not offered a soda and the salesman acted like he didn't exist. So exactly where do the salesmen learn their customer relations? BTW, it wasn't because of this incident, but because they wouldn't stand behind their work, my brother has completely gotten away from using Agco equipment. He still mentions what this salesman did occasionally, so it obviously left a lasting impression.
