I've seen mailboxes lined up like that also. The TV stations used to like to show pictures of those on the night before income tax day when cars are lined up for half a block with people trying to get their returns mailed before midnight! You don't see that as much since e-filing came to be.
As far as the yard, I've often said that mowing the lawn is nothing but a major PITA, and the only reason people do it is so their nosy and pious neighbors don't drive by and criticize! With that said, I do try and keep mine looking halfway decent most of the time. Anytime anyone has problems with it they know what they can do about it!
