Usually the "opening" size of the two battery cable lead terminals will tell you how it was when last used. The larger opening one is for the positive battery terminal and if it is wired as original, then the other end of that cable should be grounded somewhere on the tractor (the frame or chassis or maybe the mounting bolts for the starter, etc). The cable with the smaller opening at the end is the negative one and it should head to the starter itself or to the heavy duty starter button on the dash. Not sure what kind of starter button system the SC models used.
