If it's just the usual, clogged with ethanol residue, or just needs a good cleaning, do it yourself.
There are many methods to clean one up. Stripping it down and boiling it in vinegar is a good way to get it clean and make it look good. Followed by scraping out every passage, flushing with spray carb cleaner will get one as clean, maybe cleaner then a rebuilder will.
The carbs are simple. As long as everything is there and not damaged, it should be a doable job. There is a lot of info available online as for theory, fuel circuit diagrams, float level and initial adjustments.
There are 2 types of kits, a repair kit, and a master kit. Generally the repair kit is all you need. The master kit has more parts, but unless it is in bad shape, like a worn throttle shaft, you won't need the extras or the extra cost.
One of the keys to a successful carb rebuild is having a clean fuel supply. If there is rust, trash, water in the tank, it will get in the carb. No matter how well the carb is cleaned and repaired, contaminated fuel will immediately cause problems.
I don't know of any rebuilders to recommend, simply because I never use them. I have heard some horror stories though of ridiculous charges, lost carbs, and failure to communicate.
