I agree with you on wanting to get the pieces out, although some guys have run 'em for decades with extra hardware in the clutch housing with no issues.
On the older series, you could remove the steering gear for access from the top, and I'm gonna GUESS that would work with an NAA, as well. 'Course removing the steering gear is about as much work as splitting the tractor!
On the other hand, I can't imagine what the gear would be made of that wouldn't be "magnetic", even if it's made from "powdered iron" it should get friendly with a magnet.
