Here at work, we have a large 36 vot battery charger for on of our lifts. The brand escapes me at the moment. When not connected this charger makes no sounds, and displays a red "ready" light. Once connected, the lights change, I think its the charge light, and the conencted light, and then the charger starts to hum and charges the battery. Once it is charged, the unit goes silent, and the green chrged light comes on. Disconnect the cable(s) the red ready light comes on and the battery is charged. 3 times in the last 2 weeks, I have entered the warehouse to find the charger humming, even though its disconnected from a battery. Unplug the unit and plug it back in the humming stops, and the ready light comes back on. No lights were on when it was just humming. Im not opening it up, and my mechanic wont be able to get here until Friday. I dont really want to try to charge the battery again with this charger until I know its safe to use. Does any one have any knowledge of these big units to offer a solution?

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
