So I've had my '48 Styled D apart for a couple of months now, Started out as installing a new radiator core, shutters and the new linkage, see original post. First off, the top radiator tank had to be replaced, as the passage for the shutter control rod had been welded shut in a prior repair and the inside of the tank had been repaired with some type of epoxy which was loose in large chunks, still in the top of the radiator. Purchased a "ready to use " used top tank from an online supplier and it needed quite a bit of prep for me to feel comfortable using it. The Tappet housing had been brazed in several places, near the rocker shaft, and into the sealing surface where it mounts to the head, so after pulling the housing off the engine to further inspect, the housing had cracks allover, so a hopefully good used housing is on it's way, wasn't going to take any chances with the old one, must have had some kind of front end collision with a large rock or something to do that much damage ? By the way, new gasket for the rocker housing, $105.00 from Deere, if you can find one. Anyway, I started to prep the gasket surfaces on the tanks for assembly and found a trace of that epoxy stuff in the bottom tank, a quick blip of the needle scaler knocked two chunks of that epoxy out, and another blip of the scaler poked out two holes in the bottom of the tank. With the exception of the area where the two holes are, the metal in the the bottom of the tank is still pretty thick, if this is "all" that's wrong with the bottom tank, can it be repaired ? I assume the tank is made of cast iron, is that correct ? I'd be open to any suggestions, Best way, easiest way, ect, ect. I'm a bit leery of buying another tank sight unseen, then paying for shipping only to have it end up being what I already have. As Always, any advice or ideas on this Greatly Appreciated, Thanks...Tom

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
