You are correct that it covers should the other person not have insurance. However, typical health insurance might refuse to pay if injury is caused by an auto accident. The two are separate and rarely talk to each other or need to. Keep the coverage. It is like an absolute minimum policy rider, but could actually save more than it costs should you need it. There are actually quite a lot of un- and underinsured drivers on the road today. Of course, that keeps our costs going up and making more folk decide to forgo their insurance, making our costs go up and more folk . . . . .and so on.
