I really enjoyed the LOR movies. The Hobbit movies were also good. I have never read the books, but plan to sometime soon, maybe this winter.
The books I really enjoyed were the books connected to the Lonesome Dove story by Larry McMurtry. It starts out with Deadman's Walk, then Comanche Moon, after that Lonesome Dove, and ends up with Streets of Laredo. These books were not written in this order, so you'll find a few glitches in the story if you do read them in that order. You'll know them when you see them.
Larry McMurtry did this with a lot of his books. He would start out with one book, then maybe write a prequel to that one. Then maybe another prequel to the second book. After that there might be a sequel to the first book which would be the third in the story line. You really don't realize this until you read a bunch of his books, then you start bunching them up into a series to read over sometime in the future. If you like to read his books can keep you occupied for some time.
