Quite often. It's interesting as to how our estimator will price and mark things up. It's sometimes dependent on being low to a prime contractors budget for that line item, but the price can still be a bit ridiculous for what it is. However, often times, the unforeseen does come into play and those extra dollars are needed. I've got one right now, cost for the material is 18K, our selling price is 100K, but its a state job and they are beyond unbelievable about all the requirements, flying in technical advisors and a litany of other things that may cost 8K to 10K a pop. Also unbelievable is the amount of time and work I've had to do to manage this small job. It all adds up to a significant cost or can, that is the risk that you take in hopes of making a decent profit. I did another small one for the state under a prime contractor and the state BS drove our labor way up and over. The thing that saved the margin on the job was that there was extra money in the job to allow for a technical advisor from a mfr to come in. Well, the job and amount of product was so small, 4 locks is all they had. That money was spent elsewhere and they never called for the T.A. to come in, so it made it's original margin but it was also a nightmare to manage, enough to make me think about continuing working for this company, so much BS involved, who needs it ?
