Switchflicker ...... you're right of course, and metric conversion is working up here but slower than one might think since it fired up in '79 for gasoline, before that for C temperature I think. The problem I have with so-called metric gas economy ratings (or gas mileage if you wish), is that it is not a unit rate ..... ie. where the second term is a numerical "one" like miles per ONE gallon or $ per ONE litre, or if you were buying oranges, $2.29 per ONE kilogram. Somehow ones brain processes that easily. The litres per 100 KM is not a unit rate, but if you flip it is becomes one. So for example, 14 L per 100 Km equates out to about 7 Km per litre. A person flipping burgers uses a unit rate, he might earn say $12/hour (a unit rate). Even though it could be expressed as something like 8.5 hours per $100. I have always wondered though, what would be wrong with 7 Km per litre as a system of stating fuel economy? It is essentially parallel to miles per gallon in that it is a unit rate.
