Dad sat me on the tool box which was mounted to the fender on the 8N ford when I was 6. We drove out to the field beside our house with a two bottom plow on and he went across the field cutting in all the furls to get me started. He showed me how to operate everything including what to do when it tripped. It was a 26 acre field. When he got done he said don't come in till its done. Away I went. I can remember that it seemed to take forever and how proud I was when I was done. I had to stand up on the clutch to depress it. I had been operating the tractor before this but this was my first real job. Thank you dad for teaching me good work habits. I miss you. Dad passed in 2011. As for my kids, I had my daughter operating my commercial zero turn mower when she was 8 and she was a real pro at it but I don't think I would put her on a tractor doing what dad had done with me, I have seen too many accidents with bad results.
