: have a jd a 1946 started blowing crankcase smoke out the clutch side of the crank pulled the breather and ran the tractor its blowing out real bad from the crankcase i've had it about a year and never seen smoke out the pipe or using oil. any ideas . When you run it with the oil fill cap off do you get a lot of vapor out there? With the cap off put your hand over the filler opening and see if pressure builds up against your hand. If so it may be a breather /crankcase vent problem or a broken ring, piston etc. Compression check might reveal something also. My 1948 A blows some vapor past the clutch and it is totally rebuilt. There is not oil seal as such on the clutch side. Should be a lot of people here wih more experiance than me however. Try the JD forum here. E-mail me and I'll give you some contacts also who have a lot of JD engine experiance. Dave
