I’m looking at a late 80’s Ford F700 grain truck that’s in very good shape. My understanding is that it “needs new gears in the rear end”. That could range from the pinion nut isn’t tightened to all of the gears have to be replaced. I’m hoping to fine out more once I talk to sometime different tomorrow. I know that I could go drive it as it is. She didn’t know why the rear end was “out” when I talked to her.
How hard are rear end parts to get? I’m sure it’s a Spicer rear ended and is a two speed model. I’m thinking if I went in I would likely replace the pinion shaft and bearing, the axle bearings, and the diff gears. Unless of course it’s like my last chore truck I bought that was in danger of imminent rear end failure - it was the pinion nut the transmission shop hadn’t torqued back down.
