I learned to drive on a 1953 Oliver 77 and still like them. I think the live PTO, live hydraulics, and driver comfort were ahead of their time when they were introduced around 1948. The manual steering is a bit heavy, but they drive nice and the six gears give a nice range of speeds. The 12 MPH roar gear might be a bit slow for organized tractor rides.
The sheet metal and paint are above average, and the seat springs are still good too. However, I don't see any "new tire" on that tractor, what looks like duct tape over the brushes of the "rebuilt starter" and too many missing parts. With a stuck engine, four poor tires down in the dirt, no hydraulics, that many parts missing, and a rusted out can over the exhaust, that could be a very expensive project to bring back to life. You could easily invest another $2,000 to $3000 on it to only get a $1,500 tractor in the end. Myself, I would pass on this one unless I had a parts donor tractor or need this one as a parts donor tractor.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
