We used to raise barley for the hogs. We would soak it for 3 days in 55 gallon barrels. It would swell up and start to ferment, and the hogs would kill for it. They'd act like they were drunk. If you got any of it on your hands, you had to wear the smell off. The old timers said you couldn't feed it dry because it would swell in their stomachs - I don't know if that story was true - never tried it of course.
