If you have a good 3 point disc mower and only need the caddy that would be the way to go.
If you looking at replacing or simply buying a new disc mower along with a caddy you might want to look at a trailed disc mower.
A new 3 point mower and caddy will cost the same as a trailed unit.
You get a longer life from a trailed mower, there's less stress on the bar because it's supported on both ends.
I was looking at purchasing a new mower in 2014, I have owned and used a old 80's model Claas trailed mower for many years. I'd also used and hooked up my FIL's 3 point disc mower, when I found the price of a 3 point mower and caddy was the same as a trailed unit I never even looked at a 3 point mower.
Kuhn and Vermeer are the only brands I found that offer models under 10 ft wide, I can pull my Kuhn GMD2850TL 9 ft mower with a 50 hp tractor but my heavier 60 hp tractor handles it a little better.
Vermeer makes trailed disc mowers in 8 ft widths also if your looking for a smaller mower.
Having owned and used trailed mowers I'll never own a 3 point model.
