In the 60s and 70s society got the idea foodshould be fast and convieient and store forever, and we humans are attracted to sugar and fat and salt.
And so, that is what the food processors made to sell, because that is what people wanted, bought.
Then in the 70s and 80s people wanted cheap food, so they could spend money on the toys and extras and luxuries of life.
And so processors took the fast foods, and found ways to make then cheaper, but still salty, fatty, and sugary.
Then in the 90s folks said, hey, wait a minute, we are all getting fat and sick, we need healthy food! And the food processors gulped, looked around, and said, uh, uh, oh it's the farmers fault, thry make poor grain, but if you buy this extra high priced organic stuff we get from South America where they promise it's all organic, then it will be good for you!
And that is the path affluent folk have followed. The food processors have the ad budget, and control enough of the market, and are used to manipulating the markets. They have channeled poor people into buying the highly processed bad stuff from Walmart, and the affluent people into paying crazy stupid prices for the same stuff labeled organic, and made USA farmers out to be the boogeyman. It fits their needs and marketing plans, to keep ahold of the different marketplace.
Common folk have become unfamiliar with farming and farming terms. It's easy to make the farmer the bad guy.
Really, the problem is we need to eat less processed, better, Whole Foods. And many common folk are trying to do that, and good for them.
It is unfortunate they are being misled by both the big advertising food giants, as well as the over zeulios small organic folk like Traditonal Farmer exemplifies.
If you take good wholesome grains and meats that and common farm in the USA grows, and fix it right, it is the best wholesome food in the world.
It's the processors that have mucked it up, but they did so because decades ago folks demanded cheap fast easy foods. So where does one start with the blame? Obviously, it is only evil farmers of the USA that are the root of all evil.
The back to organic movement is understandable, and frankly a good thing consumers are trying. It is unfortunate that the trend is being all messed up and controlled by a few out to line their pockets by misleading folks who want better, but just don't know what questions to even as and don't understand the answers.
The gallows humor of it all is that among the many good and positive organic growers that are out there, the vocal ones are exemplified by Traditional Farmer, who is using the very same tactics as Monsanto and General Foods and the rest who use misdirection and empty content to mislead common consumers.
There are a lot of good organic growers, they work hard at their farms and do good things. I always hate these discussions, because they are the ones that get thrown under the bus.

Today's Featured Article - Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
