As Jerry said, the hood when closed, likes to rest the flanged frame or support piece right across the positive cable, and it can wear through the insulation. I placed the insole for a shoe over it and you can see the indentation it leaves, but that protects it from contacting the actual cable insulation. You can line it up each time after the flange leaves a mark. On our 3600, I took old garden hose and made a sleeve by slitting it and wrapping the cable, because I feared it being in the barn could be a fire hazard. Bad design, but the swing out battery tray sure is handy !
