Keith I too have service connected disabilities. Got a 50 something year old brother in law with a bad heart too. SO I know the rules of the game because not only am I affected by them I also know other people who are affected by them too. No you are not going to be gainfully employed. But there are lots of places that will hire someone to fill in a couple of hours a day. My brother in law run a cash register at a convenience store 2 hour a day 5 days a week. No, not a career, more like supplemental income. Then there is Jim. Jim has been on SSDI for something like 10 years or so. Constantly complaining because he isn't making much money. He refuses to look for the work that people will give him because it isn't the type of work he wants to do. He wants to work outside with his hands doing physical labor a couple hours a day. He isn't interested in hearing that he can't get work like that because no employer is going to take on that type of potential liability. His response to that is "well I'd never sue". OH by the way, his low income from SSDI is his fault too. He took a great deal of pride in working under the table for many years thereby avoiding all those pesky taxes. Yup trying to beat the man......now I'm sure old isn't a really bad guy. But there are more than a few people on here who are getting older and who could easily become disabled before retirement years. They don't need to be reading stuff about disabilities and should something happen and should they need a little extra income be afraid to look for work because of 1/2 truths they read on here.
