The more time goes by, the more things that used to be worthless become more valuable. People are drawn to things they can find and buy (esp. cheap) and have that other people don't have.
In the case of tractors, maybe there was a particular model that didn't do well in real-world conditions back in the day. Therefore, not many made. BUT....to the newer, younger collector, who will never have a NEED for such real-world conditions, that "rare" tractor may be worth a purdy penny more.
Used to be we could get all the steel drums, plastic barrels, and before that, even oilfield drill rod for free. People just couldn't give the stuff away. Nowdays, a steel drum for use as a burning (trash) barrel costs about $15 up here, WHEN you can find them at the scrap yard!

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
