Dr. Sportster, I have read many posts of yours with interest and have come to respect your knowledge. This post of yours is, however, obviously coming from total ignorance of the subject. The accident that you refer to took place 51 years ago. The train is totally new, the track is totally new, and everything about it when riding it gives you complete confidence. Ownership is different but has been in place for many years. Owner Wayne Presby is an extremely successful business man and an every day regular guy and Allis Chalmers collector. The NH PUC, being AHJ made a complete investigation and found that it was caused by operator error. It was not just one error but a series of errors that compounded and ultimately made what would have been a minor derailment a deadly accident. I think that you owe the readers here as well as Wayne Presby and Chuck Kenison the courtesy of reading a little about the railway as it is now and the accident, and see if perhaps you should change your view of it. To Chuck T, another YTer contacted me and offered to go with me to meet with you when you come to NH, to further describe NH's Cog railway to you.
