Since somebody else started this discussion; I don't know about other states, but Michigan, and I'm pretty sure the other nearby states make ORVs, snowmobiles, trail bikes etc. purchase "trail permits" or some such other nomenclature to fund their trails, etc. Why is it that bicycle users, at least in Michigan do not have to self fund their little extras, or pay for the use and upkeep of roads like motorcycles have to? If bicycle riders had to buy a licence or some form of permit to fund their bike lanes it would only be fair.
