Bob, The Owner's Manual for my Dodge Dakota talks about GCWR-Gross Combined Weight Rating which is the total of truck, trailer, cargo, people, and fluids. For example, my 4x2 Club Cab with 4 speed auto and 3.55 rear axle ratio has a GCWR of 9,200#. I am sure the GCWR is available for all trucks. What you need to do is compute your maximum GTW - Gross Trailer Weight (any salt water in those tires?) and then buy a truck that can accomodate. Once you have your truck you can mount a hitch with the appropriate rating.
