A chain doesn't stay sharp cutting stumps especially when two trees share the same stump. If you look closely, you can see dirt veins in the wood. You will see sparks flying when you hit the dirt veins. It took 2 chains to cut this small double stump. I have 8 spare chains hanging on the 5 gallon bucket. I use the oldest chains for stumps. The old chains are some-er chains. Some have teeth and some are missing teeth.
I took my oldest electric chain saw, screwed some wood to it and put a broom handle on top. We learned it was too painful to cut stumps while on our knees. Not to mention it was a killer on my back. So I came up with a way to cut stumps standing up. I cut many stumps with this last winter helping friend clear a woods for his horses. We never counted the trees we removed. Guessing at least 100.
BTY, it looks more dangerous that it really is. I still have both feet to prove it.
