That area, there are a few beef, might be some dairy yet. Biggest thing is market garden type crops. Plenty of market for them.
More "commercial ag" is in the central and northern part of the state. Dairy and potatoes are the mainstays. Several large egg farms. Blueberries "Down East". Also cranberries, apples, small grains, corn...
The greater Portland area isn't a very good representation of what the rest of the state is like.
Keep in mind most counties have a USDA office. Maine only has 16 counties, how many does your state have?
