I have automated one, and have added fuel injection to another that has older controls on it.
It is great others appreciate the magnificence of these engines.
We use compressed air on the cylinders to start them, the sites run about 250 PSI, and they can starve a plant if they do not fire, and require quite a bit of recharge time. I think we have backed the timing off to about 14 ATDC to get enough heat to warm up the turbos. We run jet assist (compressed air boost) on the turbos. Once you load them they warm the turbo right up and produce boost, but that is quite a balancing act. We will run the timing up to about 10 BTDC once the turbos are working.
