: : : : : : : where can I find one ????? : : : : : : Try a parts supply retailer catering to heavy duty trucks, or perhaps a dealer for Trojan wheel loaders. : : : : : You can look for truck size Leece-Neville. Think lots of money for alternator and regulator. The one I have has floating connections so can be use floating or with positive or negative ground. But I have an application for it. : : : : : Any alternator with an external regulator could be set up by modifying the regulator to produce 28 volts instead of 14 volts, but would have to turn faster for minimum charging. Which generally is not a problem. : : : : : Gerald : : : : Hello Don G. here. I worked at a alternator repair shop for 7 plus years. You might want to look for a Delco Remy 20si or 25si. Both come in 12 and 24 volt. Depending on amps needed this are good up to 75amps. They are on every thing under the sun. Leece Nevilles are indeed expense, and are spendy to repair too. The 20 si is a smaller in size then the 25si and a little smaller in amps. Both the 20 and 25 are brushless by design and can by run in the dirties conditions. There is also a 27si that is 24volt with a external voltage adjusting cup. The 27 has brushes and may be the cheepest one of them all. Let me know what you find. E-mail me if you have anymore questions. gteam@uswest.net : : : : Do you know how to modify the regulator??? : : : : :Dean : : : Depends on the regulator. If solid state I'd change a resistor, if mechanical, I'd probably add a resistor. Or I'd build another from scratch. : : : Gerald : : Could you give me a better idea of what resistor to add or change...Lets say I'm going to use a ford alternater and regulater...thx Dean : Depends if its transistor or magnetic regulator. : If magnetic you want to disconnect the voltage coil and measure the total resistance of the wire and any resistors in series, then add that much more resistance in series with the voltage coil. : On a transistor regulator there'll be a pair of resistors dividing the alternator output voltage so it can be conveniently be compared to a reference. This will be at the input of the smallest transistor. A rough idea for the resistor that needs to be added in series with the top resistor of the pair is a resistor that equals the sum of the resistances of the two resistors. : Not long ago I picked up a book on Delco alternators with lots of details of regulators but I've not read it yet. : Gerald
