There are better mechanically tractors out there in that year and power class, IH 706 for one. Gas engine sleeve kits were gone for a while, but I think somebody is now making them again (isn't Clevite or Federal Mogul, but beggars can't be choosers). The closed center hydraulic system is where JD had everybody in that era spanked, and if you need a higher capacity system for a loader then it might the better choice. If it has the Aluminum Marvel Schebler carb on it still, you are going to have carb issues, and the repop copy of the cast iron Zenith is not cheap. Hopefully one of the JD guys will chime in but if the synchro's are out it is a pricey and PITA job to repair, if you're lucky it may just be the linkage.
