I had Dish for a number of years. My experience was mixed. First problem was my first month's bill. I was charged extra for not being connected to a phone line even though I was. I called about it and they removed the charge. Next month, same thing. So, they sent someone to check it out. Receiver was bad. After the repairman tried the third one from his truck, we finally got one that was OK. Over the course of 5 or 6 years, I had no less than 12 receivers replaced. My opinion was that their equipment is junk.
One fine day, I was looking at the TV while I was folding laundry. The picture suddenly went to snow. I called them and they told me that they would send a technician out for a $39.95 service charge. I refused to pay it. I had not been previously charged for their equipment failures and I told them so. After arguing for a bit, the agent told me that he would connect me to "someone that could help with my problem." After a short time on hold, another person came on the phone and asked me when I would like for them to disconnect my service. I told him that NOW would be a good time.
Now, for the kicker. First, they got very threatening, telling me that they were going to charge me all kinds of fees for terminating the service, deposits on their equipment, and a few other things. They demanded that I ship their receiver back to them at my expense. Throughout the entire process of discontinuing my service, they were very nasty, confrontational, and hostile. I threatened to go to a lawyer. About a week or so later, an agent contacted me and offered to "settle" for a lesser amount (for my final bill) and send me a prepaid mailer for my receiver.

Today's Featured Article - A Question for Dads This recent topic from the Tractor Talk discussion board is being highlighted because it is an awesome display of the caliber of individuals that have made this site their own. The young person asking questions received positive feedback and advice from total strangers who "told it like it is" with the care many reserve for their own kids. The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
