Up on 4X4 across. 4 chains on each, two on the front, two on the back. Each chain forms a loop around the slab and attaches back to the side eail. one pulling left, one pulling right. The same tactic on the rear of the slab. I would snub them short and pull slightly forward on each side front, and rearward on each rear loop. Then tie the front loops to the rear loops down the middle.
In Flagstaff AZ I was driving my 51 GMC west into town. I saw a Toyota pickup with 2 kids riding in the back against the cab. (we were going 35) as I got closer (he in the right lane and I in the left) I noticed there was a stacked pile of flagstones (probably 800 pounds) stacked over the axle. No constraints. I near had a coronary. I calmly passed them and pulled left blocking both lanes. Turned on my flashers flashed my brake lights, and slowed down gradually with my arm out the window pointing to the curb. He slowed with me till stopped. I went back to his window with my hands palm up. he rolled down his window, and I explained just what might happen if he braked fast, or some idiot pulled out in front of him. then he about had a coronary. He put the kids in the cab, and we drove to the next side street where I helped him move the stone so it was edge secured toward the cab and flat on the floor back to the tail gate. He said he had never imagined the consequences of his decision. He was going about another 5 miles, and had already driven about 4 when I stopped him. It took me a couple hours to settle down after I got home. Jim

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Not a place one would associate with farms or farm machinery. I credit my parents for instilling a lot of good values, a respect for learning, a knowledge of various skills and a little knowledge of farming in me, amo
