Not saying we do not have to try to be good stewards to the land but in reality all the efforts and do good man has made combined together basically add up to a drop in the bucket.
The positive points gained in a century worth of efforts and emission mandates have been negated over and over by events such as forest fires and volcanic activity.
If one were to think back to a few hundred years ago forest fires were not put out by man instead they ran there course burning thousands of square miles until they ran there course or were extinguished by weather changes.
Nature has been taking care of itself for a lot longer than any of us can fathom and will continue to do so regardless of what mankind does or does not do.
Several world wars, burning of the oil wells in Kuwait, nuclear accidents and intentional events, add up all the emissions put out by these and plug the numbers into the calculations the theoretical geniuses are using and the results would say the earth should have melted out of existence a long time ago.

To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
