Couldn't say whether it came from the battery, but that would be my guess too. No way to tell from the battery itself whether it's leaking? I can say that my fob's been through the washer and dryer cycle a couple of times and still works fine. It does wear the batteries out faster. They only last between 1-2 yrs compared to the 8yr old original in the other fob. The one in my Silverado is still going strong after 5 yrs. Both have remote start. Wife's basic Mazda fob only gets about 1 year out of a battery.
