Hi Jim , My drive way is 510 feet long at the present. I have loaded tires on an Oliver "770" tractor. Tire chains are a must on most any hills , with any tractor. When trying to push deep snow , you won't push to far with ice under tires. I have a set angled blade on the front of my tractor. It works very well , as long as the snow has someplace to go. A blade is also much faster than a bucket , and also does a better job. The thing with a blade is , if the snow gets to deep along the sides of the drive way , the snow may not have any place to go. That's where the bucket would come in handy. You can pick the snow and move it. I thought I was going to have to put the bucket on the tractor at times , but it never came down to that. The sun would come out and melt the snow down some. In 30 years , I never had to use a bucket. My choice is still weight , tire chains , and angled blade. The blade may be tricky until the top of the drive way is froze over. It may try to dig into the soft drive way. Tire chains on the front tire would shure make a difference , but I never used any on the front. If my front end happens to slide a little , I just touch one of the brakes to compensate.

It is sometimes used so well you can't tell its there and other times used as a sloppy quick fix. Finding where and how it can be used correctly is key to whether you are using it as an "inelegant hack" or an integral solution to difficult and expens
