It will help him understand his problem and once he understands what it is and what it will take then he can adaquatly describe the problem when talking to someone to be able to find someone that can do the job IF he decides he cannot do it. As others have said where he thinks a seal is bad there is no seal so has to figure out exactly what his problem is and then find a shop if required.
