Also be aware the early and late blocks have a different size injection pump mounting pilot hole. Early used a smaller hole that the pump brass pilot tube centered in, late blocks have a larger hole as the pump housing has a larger flange pilot. If his pump is a DB, it's the early block, late blocks used the CB pump which is replaced by the JDB pump.
