In the "good old days" (last week in the computer business) it was reasonably safe to open attachments from people you knew if the file type was what you expected. This is no longer true! The SirCam worm (actually and worm and a virus) works by sending a random file (any extension) from the infected machine to addresses in the address book. This means that you can receive an email message that appears to be from someone you know with an extension that seems harmless and get infected. If your computer gets infected, one of your files is randomly sent to the people in your address book. If the file has sensitive information (financial for example) you may have a serious exposure. In certain cases, the worm/virus will also delete all the information off your hard drive. Therefore, unless you are computer savvy, have a lot of spare time on your hands, download virus update files often, use your virus checker every time, and make frequent backups of all your critical data, do yourself a big favor, DO NOT OPEN EMAIL ATTACHMENTS!
