When I bought my place in 93 thee was an old Allis 10W cat sitting in the Busch all grown in but the engine was loose, even though it had a rusted trough can on the exhaust. A couple years later I decided to pull it home. I jacked up the blade so it was off the ground and pulled it out with the tractor, my son driving the tractor and me on the cat. On the way home I thought of trying to pull start it(there was still half a tank of fuel). So I put it in third gear and let of the clutch slowly. It made an awful noise in the tranny/rear and belched crud and water and more crap from the stack but after a couple yards it fired up.It didn't last long though before it seized. Upon investigating later I found that mice had gotten in and had made a nest in the airbox and on top of 2 of the pistons of that 4-71 Detroit
I also found that the crown and pinion had lost some teeth which must've been the reason for abandonment back in the day.
