On an open station tractor, if you mount them within, say, three feet of your face, be sure to use the type of light with a bottom post type mount - the kind with one bolt on the bottom. And then make sure the bolt is ON the bottom - don't mount it with the mounting bolt in an upward position. That way you can hang your hat over the light to help keep the bugs out of your face. Be sure to bring one hat for each light, although if you're picking up hay, you can usually generate enough sympathy from the crew to borrow another hat or two.
I've been around 2 cylinder Deeres all of my life, and those lights on the back of the seat put you right in the middle of the swarm of bugs. You learn to breath with your teeth clenched together. Thankfully, you can switch the seat light off and the swarm will dissipate. Meanwhile, you can't see what's happening behind you with the light off.
