Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. If your tractor wont shut off , you might check the point setting. The mag could possible be off by one or two holes also. Do you have the operators manual? That book will cover setting the mag.If you follow the instructions step by step, it should purr like a kitten if the valves are good shape and the timing gears are not wore out. One thing the book does not say to do is to not let the engine roll backwards when setting the mag. If it rolls backwards it will loosen the gear lash in the timing gears and you will set the mag off by a little bit.Take out all of the spark plugs when you set the timing and it shouldn't roll backwards. If you miss the mark, go ahead and keep rolling it 2 revolutions of the crank handle and the right mark will come back around.
