I agree with 99% of what has been said. Also if the factory equipped the engine with compression release cocks and/or priming cups, then USE THEM! They'll usually save you a LOT of work. For example, if you prime grandad's 12-20 Case (about 15 drops in each cup), she'll start first pull nearly every time, if you don't, you'll be there all morning...even with a carb off a DC. Another thing I do, with the Case and with our Allis WC is turn my head away as I pull. The crank slipped off that Case as she started once, it swung up in an arc that broke my glasses, cracked a sinus, and required 3 stitches to close the cut above my eye. A smack in the side of the head usually hurts a LOT less than one in the face.
