The county that I live in has such a sparse population, I can't renew my CDL unless I drive two counties over. The CDL renewal notice said two bring two forms of ID, and I did have them, but wasn't asked to show them. Here's why: I get there, showed my current driver's license to the lady behind the counter, who appears to be about my age, and she asked me if I knew a "Jane Doe" in my home town. (My home town has a population of about 600, BTW) I told her that I DO know her cousin and told her that her cousin is two years younger than me. The examiner then asked me about the dances that her cousin Jane Doe used to always go to. I told her: "Yep, they used to have dances at the American Legion hall every Saturday night and your cousin Jane Doe used to bring all of her female cousins." The examiner than told me that she was one of the cousins that always came to my home town dances with Jane Doe. I then said: "Do you know something really scary? I probably danced with you a lot back in those days!" After I said that, she never asked me for any more forms of ID.
