Thank you JD. Nothing you have said makes me upset and 100% of it makes perfect sense. We sold all our heifers a month ago and it cut our feed bill way down with the elimination of calf starter, milk replacer and heifer supplement. We filled one heifer barn with 44 really nice feeder calves. They’re doing very well so far. We’re feeding these on gain at $100/lb to start and we may buy our own in time but undecided right now. Other small farms in our area seem to think since the new trading agreements haven’t affected us yet that it was something that made the news a month ago and won’t change anything. In reality what will happen is it will take awhile to be fully implemented and then they’ll wonder why things have gotten to the point they are headed. I know as a family we will be far better off financially than we have been. I’m still hoping to get into an electrical program fall of 2019 and I’m sure I’ll do fine at it. I guess I’ve lived to farm most of my life but where has that gotten my family? Stressing over bills & weather and a husband and father they usually see just before bed most days. My Dad hated cows for those reasons. He had serious heart problems the last 22 years of his life. My Mom said he would look out the house window with tears rolling down his face because I was in the barn alone late at night trying to get things fixed or caught up and often times he wasn’t well enough to help me so I could finish up and spend the evening with my own family.

Today's Featured Article - A Question for Dads This recent topic from the Tractor Talk discussion board is being highlighted because it is an awesome display of the caliber of individuals that have made this site their own. The young person asking questions received positive feedback and advice from total strangers who "told it like it is" with the care many reserve for their own kids. The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
